Big Blue Design- What's in a name?
Therese & Stefan started the business in 2000 with just 8 cards, but the business name was harder to come by than any design. After many possible combinations Therese joked that the naming of their business was going to lead to a 'big blue...' and there you have it. Our name does not really reflect the wide blue sky or deep blue ocean, just an argument! So the name stuck & we love it.
Our Dragonfly
First designed for our Atelier range and later adapted as our logo, the dragonfly holds great symbolism for many cultures. It represents the notion of change, living fully, with happiness and with love.
Our Background
Big Blue Design recognised that the Australian market lacked a sophisticated and elegant sympathy card to acknowledge someone's loss, so our first 8 designs strove to fill this void. We designed a range to reflect that every loss is different and deserves a unique tribute. From this beginning we forged a partnership with Palliative Care Australia where a donation is made with each sympathy card sold. We also support a variety of community groups through our card sales. Reed Gift Fairs previously voted our range Stationery Product of the Year.
Our Card Collections
Over the past 9 years we have added more sympathy designs and extended the watercolour collection into birthday greetings, baby cards and blank cards suitable for overprinting.
We have designed several more ranges including the Atelier range that pairs classic watercolour backdrops with a modern line drawing overlay. The Atelier range is blank inside to suit a variety of occasions and features art deco touches throughout the range.
